PassKey II (VATS Fuel Enable)

I have a 1991 RS 305 TBI. Turn key~Car wont turn over or even click. I grounded out Starter enable relay (yellow/black wire) so now starter turns over car but no fuel=no start. It wont push-start either. So I then went to local dealership and found resistance value of my key, which was '9'. Got a single 10 oam resister and cut 2 white wires in orange coating under dash. soldered one end of both white wires to one end of resister. Then other end of resister soldered to other ends of 2 white wires. Then 2 white wires connect, via wiring harness, to a purple/black, and a white/black (I Think) that goes to VATS module. Car still turns over but no fuel. Did i wire resister wrong? Or can I bypass fuel enable signal? Simulate fuel enable signal? What is cheapest easiest way to start my car so I can get to work?!!? Thanks any help is much appreciated

Im not sure what you did but lets start over from the beginning and pretend its back to normal

unplug the connector those orange/white wires goto, and put the resistor in the side leading back to the vats module (you can solder it in later if it turns out to be the right one)

he said it was a 9? did he mean 9ohms or some kind of GM special keycode #9, i dont know the values off the top of my head so I cant say if 9 falls into any valid range

you also have to relize that if you try to start the car once with the wrong resistance, it disables starter and fuel for about 5 minutes, after the 5 minutes or so you can try again

thanks. Yeah he said 9 ohms which seemed weird to me because 9 ohms is a very hard value to achieve w/ resisters. so i just used a 10 oam in hopes that there was a margin of error big enough to accomodate the extra 1 ohm. I believe that both white/orange wires origionate from the tumbler/ignition and the purple and black wires go to the VATS control module. So where do I put the resister and is a 10 ohm ok?

10 should be fine, if you had a fresh one Id say just "plug" it into the connector that the purple and black wires are on

it has to be in between those 2 wires

if I understand correctly you soldered both white wires to 1 end of the resistor on each side... basically you bypassed any resistance at all because the 2 wires leading back to the module are touching each other, if you were todo that way it should only be in between one of the wires

note: do NOT do it that way though, because it will combine with the resistance of your key still, unplug that connector ;0

yeah that makes sense... I started thinking that right away... Unfortunately I dont know much about electrical. I think I'll try a paper clip on one side and the 10 ohm resister on the other side... Then switch...

Umm ok like this?

VATS Module

Before you go too much further, a 9 ohm resistor is not going to be correct. Do a net search on passkey to find the list of valid values. As for key #9, I'll bet that it is the 9th value in that list.

ascii drawings are tough, cant say for sure

all you need to know to bypass the key, is to unplug the connector, and leave it unplugged its not needed anymore
then put the resistor between the white/black & purple/black (one on each side of resistor)

'9' Ohm is not correct?!!? I went to the dealership and asked them to give me the resistance value of the key and he walked away, returning 2-3 minutes later and told me "9"... Thats weird..... Man Im totally stuck then.... It cranks over being that I grounded the starter relay.. Any easy way to just ByPass the Fuel enable? Or any easy way to get the VATS to tell the injectors to fire?

help me fire my injectors! VATS passkey is a pain in the ***

If you are really stuck and need to move the car, then remove the EPROM from the ECM. It will start and run. Then do the net search for the list of resistor values.
