I've just swapped my 1988 305 TBI for a 1985 305 TPI engine. I've had the TBI harness converted to TPI, but they didn't change the connector for the alternator. The origonal alternator on the 88 engine has a 3 terminal plug going into the alternator where the 85 engine has a 2 prong plug going into the alternator. I was wondering if anybody knows what that third wire is going into the 88 alternator that is not present on the 85. I can't seem to find a charging system diagram for the 88 alternator, but I found one for the 85. Any ideas?

 

OK, here are diagrams for the 88 and 85 alternators. Should I just splice the two brown wires into the other terminal?
