The left and right headlamp relays I have show part #10031246 (driver side) and #10022620 (passenger side)...however the '84 shop guide shows the circuitry to be the same. My driver's side is toast and is no longer OEM available...the passenger side is still OEM available. Can I use a #10022620 relay also on the driver's side?

auto zone has a complete kit with wiring and both relays. it's about $175 though. prolly be est going to the yard.
here's the incredibly long link to the item.

Buying the whole set from autozone looks pricey...but Autozone does carry a single relay #SW235...will it do to replace my driver's side relay?

I screwed up...the Autozone part number is MR86...not SW235.

yeah, already caught that. I've been looking online at their headlight relay stuff because I think mine need replaced. my headlights are pulling too much power. not sure if it's a fault in the relay or what, but there's only one way to find out.

Upon further research I discovered that what I thought was the passenger side headlamp relay GM#10022620 is actually the isolation relay for the headlamp motors...and it is mounted to the radiator cowling. The actual passenger side headlamp relay is located on the inside passenger side front fender...just exactly opposite of the driver's side relay (duh!!)...and it is also part GM#10031246.

I opened up the apparently failed driver's side relay (since I saw a puff of smoke there when I turned my lights on) and discovered that one of the very fragile contact levers (there are two) had disengaged from its pivot point...in the trash it goes...and I'm buying two new relays...one for each side. Odds are after 22 years of flawless headlamp performance, when one goes, the other is likely to fail close behind.

I've always found it's best that if you're replacing one part of something, it's best to replace it's counter parts. If I replace one relay in a circuit...I replace them all. If I'm changing rotors, I replace the calipurs too.

Found the final problem

After replacing both the left and right lamp hood relays, I still could not get the left to rise...I searched the wiring diagram and found there was a fusible link in each the left and right hood lite circuits...finally located both links inside a wire braid just behind the left lite...found the left light's link was burned open. Reconnected...lite now works perfectly. What caused this?...when my left hood relay originally failed it caused a direct short to ground when I switched the lites to on...the weak spot in the circuit was the fusible link...it failed as was intended by the designers, but damn those links were hard to find!!...let alone repair.

HI, I'm having trouble finding the fusible link. Been looking around for it for a few hours now and just can't seem to trace it down. Do you happen to have any pictures or advice to find it? Thank you
