Column swap, non vats to vats

Ok here goes, I have been searching but have come up with no clear answer to thiss question. I have a 91 RS with Vats, and am picking up an 88 Iroc which I believe is non Vats correct? (havent picked it up yet) The Iroc body is nice so I am swapping all my parts to the Iroc from my RS, 5speed glass etc. The steering coulmn on the Iroc is trashed from some idiot trying to steal it, and I wanna swap it out with the one from my 91 RS. Is this possible or will I run into problems? CAn you run a colum equiped with Vats in a non vats car by simply not hooking up the vats system? Thanks in advance for the help.

I believe the short answer is yes. VATS works off two small wires from the column to the VATS module which sends a signal to the ECM. If you're using the '88 ECM (non VATS), you should be OK.

Leaving the airbag wheel off may leave a gap between the wheel and coulmn. But the coulmn would work just leaving the VATS wiring unhooked. Mike
