Fuse Keeps Blowing

The car is a 92 RS. One of the fuses keeps blowing. Its the fuse that controls the interior lights, power door locks, power hatch, etc. It has blown out a couple times before but now I can't even put a new fuse in without it instantly going bad. I tried to put a 30 amp in there but it also went bad. What do you guys think the culprit is here?

honest to god, check for a penny or something in your cigarette lighter outlet.

Edit- Also, if you have an aftermarket radio, check the wiring job.

Every time I turned on the headlights, I would blow the fuse that controlled the instrument lights. Turned out the wire that went to the stereo that dimmed the display when the headlights went on was grounding out.

I had the same exact problem and same things that would blow. I unplugged the wire to the cig. lighter and the problem went away.

Under hood light fixture was shorted to ground for me. Removed the wire from it and haven't had a problem since. I'm still looking for a new fixture (low on the priority list).

Sounds like you have a dead short to ground. Put a test light across the fuse terminals & it should light up. Go around and disconnect devices on the circuit until the light goes out or wiggle wire harnesses until the light goes out. When the light goes out, you have found your problem - please do not put a bigger fuse in the circuit or you will find your problem by way of fire!

I'm running into this problem right now. My car is an electrical nightmare. I think my problem may be that water got into my electric side mirrors when I had to pull the driver side off to go get a new mirror. I haven't figured it out yet and I have some other problems to figure out. Whoever had the car before me did a terrible job wiring in their stereo equipment.

Well okay Im outside trying to find the problem. I took the radio trim piece and shifter plate off. The radio wiring job looked fine and I made sure the power window/trunk connections were good. I checked the underhood light and all looked good. I put in a new fuse and it was good for a minute or so and then it blew. Then I was messin around the guage cluster area. I made sure the rear defog connection was good and unplugged the wire going to the cig lighter to see if that could be the problem. I put a new fuse in and it was good for 4 minutes then it blew. Why would the fuse stay good for a little and then blow again?

update-I took the bulb out of the underhood light and so far the fuse is still good. So hopefully that is the problem.

if it is a random blow it is most likely a wire that has the insulation rubbed off which shorts at random times.

This must be one of those "camaro traits". I am not a violent girl but all of the fuse changes that I did on my car...It was about to get ugly! hee hee! Thanks for the under the hood light trick, I'm gonna try it! Hope it works for me too!
