Adding fact. foglights to base '88 Camaro?

How tough would it be to add factory IROC-style foglights to my base 2.8 Camaro? I don't want it to look aftermarket, I want everything to look and perform like the car originally came with them. Thanks!

all you gotta do is swap out the grill insert for the z28/IROC style, then get the lights and brackets from a donor car and wire them up to a switch in the dash. If you want to go all out for the stock look you can do like I did and find another car with the switch still in it and just swap out the empty trim plate under your headlights for the one with the switch. good luck finding the lights themselves though, they get yanked pretty quick. you'll probably have to buy them used from someone on the board or ebay.

You can get almost any squarish foglights of about the right size and hang 'em up in the stock location, it will look good.

I installed a set on my son's '91 RS. I bought a new IROC grille from GM for less than $50.00 and a set of lights off of the board. If you buy a set of used ones make sure to inquire the condition of the bezels. They are famous for rusting out.

I didn't have the original harness so I had to do my own wiring. I ran a hot wire from the fuse block to trigger the 87 relay I mounted near the battery. The 87 relay fed fused power to the lights. He had just gotten his license so I wired the feed to the 87 relay from an accessory terminal on the fuse block that powered up when the ignition switch was in the RUN position so that whenever his car was running his driving lights were on like daytime driving lights. Now that he's been driving awhile I'm going to wire it into the OEM driving light switch I've already installed.

Thanks guys. I've already got a fair used bezel from an IROC. I'll probably go with a new grill if they're only $50! Do 3rd-gen foglights come on automatically with the headlights? Thanks!

No, they always had a seperately mounted switch.

No, but you could tap into the wire that feeds the headlights to trigger the 87 switch to the dl's and put a switch in the wire to disable the dl's from coming on of you wanted.

Just some info from Jim85IROC that I thought was interesting:

From 86-on, your fog lights would work with your parking lights on and when your low beams are on. As you learned, they won't work with high beams.

BUT... in 85, in addition to many other one-year-only peculiarities, the fog lights would come on ONLY with the low beams. With just your parking lamps on, the fog lights will not come on.

That's why mine are wired the way they are. They are on regardless of park, low or high beams. They work like daytime driving lights. I plan to wire the switch in now that he has driven for awhile so he disable them. Kids tend to not turn on their lights at dusk leaving them and others vulnerable to not being seen.
