VATS - no ohm reading
VATS - no ohm reading
I had a locksmith attempt to make a key for a 91 RS I bought but, he was unsucessful. He said he was unable to get an ohms reading (from where I don't know.) Does anyone know what I could be up against? I do have an 89 RS parts car also - if needed, will the VATS system work if swapped and how much time/money could this cost me? Thanks in advance all....

Are you trying to make a duplicate or replace a lost or missing key? If you're trying to make a duplicate just measure the resistance in (ohms) across the pellets on the original key. If your trying to replace a lost key and it still has the original cylinder Chevy maybe able to make you one with your VIN.
Otherwise you'll probable need a new ignition cylinder.

Yes, trying to make a new key since the original was lost. I took it to a local auto shop today, we'll see what happens. I was anxious to get it on the road.....thanks for the reply.
