Well, we have to ask again exactly what kind of symptoms are causing you to think you have charging problems?
Because the generator obviously works since the engine still runs when you pull the battery cable..

yes,you take the white wire off the altenator.and run it to the battery.i hooked my up to a toggle switch inside the car...the wire your bypassing comes from the ignition i think,,but it works

I don't have a white wire. I have:
red from the positive alternator terminal to the pos. battery terminal.
red from the positive alternator terminal to a clip on top of the alternator.
Black from the clip on the alternator and into a wire harness that I goes to I assume a control to regulate the alternator. Is this your white wire?
I have had the alternator tested. On the car, it is not supplying power to the battery. On the bench, it tests perfect. This indicates a wiring problem. I tested the red wire from the alternator to the battery and it will pass current. It does however, have a line that comes off it. It is red and connects to a line that goes back into the car body. I assume it is power to something but it could be a control if th econnection is a switch?

yes my wire was white that came off the altenator clip.i ran it to a toggle switch aint had no problems since..i even get a better charge.get the toggle switch w/ out led light.just get a 30 or 20 amp with only 2 connectors..yea the wire to the right is the power.my clip plugs into the top of the alt.and the wire sits on the right!
----------
one is power and the other hooks up to the post on the side of the altenator.and the other wire that hooks to the post is the ground so the other wire on the top with the clip that does not run to the side of the altenator is the wire

scratch my last post. I found some schematics and that does go to the ignition and then to a light. It isn't required. Open or closed it doesn't solve my problem.

thanks,
