H.E.I. DIST PROBLEMS???

Hello guys! I'm doing the T.B.I. to carb swap, (very simple or so I thought) everything was going fine until it came to the distributors, I've heard for the roller cam style engines it's best to swap gears from the original CC dist to the conventional H.E.I. since it's melonized and designed for less wear in this application! Well i went to swap them and found that the CC unit is on a smaller .491 shaft and the STD. unit is .500 shaft!!! O.K., I said I'll keep on trucking since merely dropping in the dist is the last operation that needs to be performed and wiring it, in order to start it, but the conventional dist won't go all the way in and bottom out for some reason and seems to be sticking! It will go as far as an 1/8in to the bottom but that's it!!!! Has anyone ever run accross such a situation??? and I'm very well versed in automechanics and probably dropped & timed 150 distributors in my day, but never had something like this happen. PLEASE HELP WITH ANY AND ALL INPUT ON WHAT I'VE MENTIONED, EVEN THE MELONIZED GEAR DEAL! THANKS, SLICK.

O.k. guys, the distributor went in with no issues yesterday! (guess I was just tired and frustrated) But I do need to know if the cast gear is going to cause problems with the roller styled camshaft since it's not of the melonized material???? (someone please chime in with some input)
