driver's side lock switch does nothing, passenger side works fine
in my 1992 firebird with power everything, the passenger side lock switch locks and unlocks the passenger side door just fine, and the driver's side does not respond at all. similarly, the driver's side lock switch does nothing at all for either door. however, both power windows work fine. any suggestions?

It's great that your windows work, however, the power windows have nothing to do with the power locks. This is common in our cars. The activator on your driver's side probably needs to be replaced. Not a big hairy deal. I am sure you can find a thread here to tell you how to do it.

well luckily for me, if it is the switch itself that's bad, i already know how to replace it because i took it all apart before looking for help. going to go do it again with more time this time, gonna cross the wires myself and see if closing the circuits with like a screwdriver makes the locks work.
but if it was the switch, wouldnt the passenger side button make the driver's side door (un)lock?

ok "some" good news
i took the switch apart and cross the circuits with a wire, the switch is definitely broken, cheap fix
the bad news is that the lock bar itself was disconnected from the latch on the motor that does the (un)locking, and when i put the bar back in (identical to the working door) the motor's not strong enough to do anything apparently. tough lock huh?

problem solved! got lock bar back into place on the actuator, pulled a working switch off an 85 trans am that's being scrapped, WD-40'd everything in the door and put it all back together and worked the wd-40 in. works like a charm now!
