VSS/Speedo

I have a really weird problem with my speedo. I got my RS 25th Anniversary on October last year and the speedo hasnt been working since then, I tried replacing the VSS, but no success, I replaced the speedometer itself with a used one with no success either, i also tried checking all the wiring that goes from the VSS to the transducer and from the transducer to the cruise control module and it all seems to be OK. Do you guys have any idea of what is wrong?????

When you replaced the vss did you visually check the drive gear in the trans tail shaft? How did you select the replacement vss? Did you purchase the replacement from GM using the vin number? Did you use an ohm meter to check the vss wiring connections and ensure that you had continuity to the ecm? Has your speedo ever worked? Do you have any hacked wires in the harness?

Assuming that everything is as it should be, sometimes the wiring harness connection to the cluster can cause the no speedo condition.

You didnt answer the questions I asked in my first post.... How did you check your wiring, visually or with a test set? How did you obtain the correct vss?

There is a tech article on this site that might also help you. It's an article on swapping electrical Trans Am clusters but, it identifies the wires from the cluster to the speedo that you might want to check with a test set.

Point is, the circuit from the vss to the ecm must be good, likewise it must be good to the cluster. Assuming you have the correct vss, the ecm is okay, the drive gear is good and all wiring and the connections are good, the cluster is okay, it should work. Lastly, pull the cluster, clean the contacts and the male ends of the connector.

Good luck
