VATS help...putting a 92 engine in 88 IROC
ok, I'm putting a 92 350 in my 88 Iroc. Of course, I'm putting in the 92 chip and computer and wiring harness, but my problem is this: the engine and its computer are set up for VATS, but my keys to the car are for the 88, which didn't have VATS...so, can I just bypass the vats system with the Painless module, or will I have to do a bunch of bs just to enjoy my new engine? thanks, guys.

The VATS is a module under the dash which reads the pellet in the key. It only has effect on the electronics not the engine itself. There is code in the ECM that looks for a valid signal from vats to enable the injectors and start relay. If you ask around here there are a lot of people who reprogram the ECM to take out the VATS probably in the DIY prom forum. If you ask them I would bet they can put you in the right place to get that done. You won't need to do anything to the engine since you car didn't come with VATS just a new reprogrammed PROM should be all you need.
