Power antenna failed

Where can I locate a replacement power antenna for my 1984 TA?? Mine would keep running and I had to remove the fuse to protect my battery. Universal ones may not fit, so Im wondering if there is anyone who has some experience with this. Probably the only way to access it is to remove the fender(??), but I would really appreciate some direction from your suggestions. Thanks!

You don't have to remove the fender but it's easier to remove the wheels and undo the back section of the inner fender. This will give you access to the antenna assembly. The wiring passes thru the bulkhead so you have to remove the passenger kick panel and sound panel to access the wiring. This way you will be able to unplug the electrical connections and the antenna lead you can remove to screws on the antenna body so you don't have to pull the radio.
As for your problem,it's a common one for power antennas, the nylon drive cable is most probably broken. You can buy replacement parts from one of the board sponsors Modern Day Muscle(home page http://www.moderndaymuscle.com/ and the antenna parts http://www.moderndaymuscle.com/inc/s...tenna&n=332002 ).The replacement antenna assemblys GM sells are universal units and not specific to the F-Body.

Hope this info help.

thanks. im going to take a closer look at the entire assembly when the weather gets better. the way you explained it seems fairly straight forward with a little patience.

really miss that antenna too and the stereo is worthless without it working properly...

recently i pulled off my fender and figured while it was off i would investigate the non working antenna. not sure the cause but the wires were all rusted and the insides seemed to be seized. i took it out but just cut the wires at the antenna body. do those wires lead to a connector that can be removed and replaced or i just run new wires?

The wires should run to a connector/relay under the dash, just to the left of the ECM, when facing the front of the car. The antenna wire should go directly to the back of the radio.

Re: Power antenna failed

do the wires go through the firewall or are they with the bulkhead?

Re: Power antenna failed

the wires go thru a hole in the side of the firewall. Once you remove your fender liner, you can easily see the round grommet that pulls out. I just got done rebuilding mine.
