Wiring 4th gen lock switches
Before you say it, yes, i searched. And searched, didnt find anything.
Basically, I almost have this door done. 4th gen panel fits, handle is on, window and mirror switches are wired up, but I'm having some difficulty with the power lock switches. Using this schematic from my 91 Z ...

And this schematic ..

What am I missing? The 3rd gen switch has 3 wires, Orange, Black, and Lt. Blue. The 4th gen switch has 5 Orn/Blk, Lt Blu, Dk Blu, Orn, Red/Blk. I KNOW the two ORN wires go together, (+12v), but am unsure about the others. Any ideas?

What year 4th gen are your switches from? When I looked up a 97 and 01 they only used 3 wires.

Re: Wiring 4th gen lock switches
According to the diagrams, I wired as follows ..
3rd Gen to 4th Gen
ORN (+12v) ORN
Lt Blu (Lock) Orn/Blk
Blk (Unlock) Red/Blk
That takes care of the 3 wires on the 3rd gen harness. I'm left with a Lt Blu and a Dk Blu on the 4th gen switch, which I ran to the Lt Blu and Dk Blu on the RH side switch. The ORN on the RH switch to the other ORN (+12v), and the 2 blacks to ground. No go.

Re: Wiring 4th gen lock switches
Using the stock 3rd gen harness connect it like this
3rd Gen to 4th Gen
Left Side
ORN (+12v) ORN
Lt Blu (Lock) Orn/Blk
Blk (Unlock) Red/Blk
Right Side
ORN (+12v) ORN
Lt Blu (Lock) Lt Blu
Blk (Unlock) Dk Blu
Leave all other wires unattached.

Re: Wiring 4th gen lock switches
Me thinks you got the wrong pigtail with your switches. The 4th gen switches have 5 pins on them, but two are locating pins only. There's only three wires on stock 4th gen pig-tails.
The connector is universal GM, and does have 5 holes and spots for two more wires. Given you have extra wires I think you can throw the colors of them out the window. I can check again, but I believe the lowest pin on the three pin side isn't connected and the diagonal opposite pin on the two pin side isn't connected.
It would be easy to check with a multi meter. Check for shorts between two wires as you push the button up/down.

Re: Wiring 4th gen lock switches
Still no go. I have continuity between ALL the wires and where they should go according to the schematic. So, no shorts. Fuse is good, power to the relay, and power at the ORN wire at the switch, so I am kind of leaning towards a relay. How do you test a circuit breaker? Can you?

Well, wasnt the relay. Could I just have 2 bad actuators? Anyone have any other ideas? Kevin, any chance you could pop off the cover plate on yours and check the wiring colors?

Re: Wiring 4th gen lock switches
try wiring up your old thirdgen switches again to make sure everything still works. if it does then you either know that you're wiring up the new ones incorrectly or the new ones just dont work properly and you'll need to get a new set

Re: Wiring 4th gen lock switches
got it. what worked for me was (both sides)
3rd gen > 4th gen
Orange > Black
Lt Blue > Red
Black > Orange
Finally got all my 4th gen wiring done and working. I'd like to thank everyone on this board for all their help. Cheers!
