Tach idles at 1500

Hey guys I'm in the middle of doing a 4th gen dash swap on the cluster I got all my gauges and blinkers and stuff to work but when it's at idle it reads 1500rpm. When I give it gas it goes up till it gets to about 4500 rpm then it goes all over the place and back to 1500 when it's at idle has anyone had this problem

Bump. I will try to help. What resources are you using for the conversion? I would check my tach for proper operation with another car. Was your cluster from a six cylinder by chance?

Re: Tach idles at 1500

I guess if you could give me some background info such as 1) where you sourced your cluster.

2) and did you have to re solder the pins for the interface?

What site did you use for research? I have done a 95 analog gauge swap into a digital 94 caprice. Complete re pin. But I would first need supreme confidence I had a v8 cluster that wasn't a v6 cluster that someone just put new faces on. It will fetch twice the money as a v8. Just sayin'. Do the 4th gen people have any ideas?
