Re: power trunck problem
Go to the TDS site and read their instructions about the pull down hatch. Most common problem is stripped gear nut. Been there and done it.

Re: power trunck problem
Check the Tech article I wrote on TGO for instructions on repairing the 1986-87 & 88-91 hatch pull-down units.
Stuck down without the motor running could be a bad reversing switch or more likely the unit just needs to be re-set. The pull-down unit only runs on the down cycle if the striker-sensing switch is pressed. To re-set the pull-down unit is simple. Just reach down into the hole that the latch portion retracts into and press on the striker-sensing switch. That switch is located just in front of the latch as you face the pull-down from the rear of hte car. Presing the switch SHOULD cause the motor to turn on and power down until the reversing switch is tripped. You'll hear a CLICK when that happens. The motor will turn off at that point. Release the switch and it should power all the way back up and be re-set. There are seversl reasons why the pull-down unit needed to be re-set . Most commonly the hatch hook contacted the striker-sensing switch but failed to be latched. The pull-down started it's downward cycle until the hatch closed. At that point the motor continued down but the hatch hook came off of the switch. The motor stops immediately. Re-setting as described is necessary at that point.
88ttopta needs a new gear nut. I just listed the instructions for re-setting the pull-down unit for anyone else that needs to know.

If everyone would read that article first they could solve 99 44/100% of the problems.
