ECM jumper wire with engine on or off?

Car: 1987 Camaro, 1986 Trans AM
Engine: V6 2.8 multi-port and V8 5.0 FI
Transmission: 5-Speed and Automatic
Axle/Gears: no idea
ECM jumper wire with engine on or off?

I keep reading the IAC adjustment steps and most say keep the diagnostic terminasl A and B grounded with a jumper wire with the ignition on.

tehn after all is said and done after turning on the engine and doing the min. air adjustment. it says turn off the car and remove the jumper wire or other way around.

I'm afriad this will ruin my ECM and I want a few people on here to tell me yes do not start engine with the terminals A and B connected or no its ok to have the engine running with the jumper wire in there to do the adjustment.


Please just someone tell me straight out yes or no if its ok and why.

The A+B jumper wire wont harm the ECM. It puts the ECM into field test mode. With the engine running, it reports basic items like the closed loop fueling corrections via the SES and so on.
