Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Question.
I just talked to the guys at Advanced Auto Parts about my code 24. We figured out that it could be the VSS, which I thought was the speedometer, but really is a sensor that communicates with the ECM. I have had problems with the engine running rough after passing 45 and then stopping or slowing down.
My question is as following.. Does anybody know what OEM number this sensor has? Do I have to buy it from Chevy? Could it just be disconnected? I have checked the ECM, and the brown A10 wire seems to be connected there. But I dont even know if I checked the right connection bundle....
Is it easy to replace the VSS? Is it expensive? Could this be ther reason the car is running rough after passing 45 mph? (estimated since my speedo doesnt work either) The car is running fine if I dont drive fast..
I have bought all new wires, plugs, rotor and distributor cap and even a fan belt is ready to replace the old one.
Thanks for helping me out guys!

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Question.
Sounds like the sensor to me. I just changed mine last week. It was easy to change but my speed sensor cost me a little over $80. There is a number on it. What I did was took out the old one and took it to the auto parts store. They took the number off it and ordered a new. No big deal. I dont know how it is on your car but I found mine at the back of the tranny. 1 plug and one bolt and it came rite out.

I forgot to mention you should disconnect the neg battery cable before you take out your sensor.

If your car is an 89 as indicated under your name, and still stock then you have an older style than Mokilok. The VSS is mounted on the back of the speedometer. I would first figure out why your speedometer is no longer working. Could be the cable is sticking, and needs to be repaired or replaced.

Thanks Jay. I just bought the cable today, so I need to get a friend of mine to install it. I dont know anything about fixing things, and I have 10 thumbs. so Im completely useless
I will see what happens when the wire is installed! Thanks!
Thanks to you too Mokilok!!!
