Replacing Sensors (Need Parts and Help)
I am about to do my exhaust and cooling system and need to replace my o2 sensor, coolant sensor, temp guage sensor. Could someone help me find some of these. I am not sure what to get when buying these parts?
P.S. I am getting Haydens Fan Control kit so IDK if I still need the coolant sensor.
I am getting Hooker Shorties 2460 just need the right 02 for it and wires (Heard NTK was good)
My temp guage doesnt work so I thought I'd replace that too and wires. Thanks for all help.
IF YOU NEED ANYMORE INFORMATION JUST ASK...AS I WANT THE BEST FOR MY CAR.

Re: Replacing Sensors (Need Parts and Help)
Are you 100% sure your sensors are bad? I'm not even close to an expert, but some of my gauges/sensors weren't working properly and I discovered that they were simply not hooked up correctly. Are you looking for the under-hood location of your sensors or somewhere to buy them?

Re: Replacing Sensors (Need Parts and Help)
Awesome, I just put those exact same headers in my 87 Trans Am. And yes, I had to replace (actually, replacing since they are still in the garage) the same sensors. I didn't "need" to replace three of those, but I figured I might as well since my car is 20yrs old.
Oxygen senors:
I just went to the autoparts store and got the regular oem replacement. I believe I got a Bosch(sp?) O2 sensor for 82-92 F-bodies. The O2 bung on the driver side header should be same as the oem on the manifold.
Engine Temp Gauge sensor:
This one is between the first two spark plugs on the driver side. This one I didn't have to replace, but I did. Its rather simple. It just a bolt with a nail-like tip you just hook or unhook. Last one you'll need is...
Fan Temp sensor:
This is the exact same sensor on as the engine temp gauge, except that its between the last two spark plugs on the passenger side. I broke this one and had to replace it. This sensor is to activate the second fan when the engine temp reaches 220(I think)...I'll include a pic of this sensor...

The coolant temp sensor should be on your intake manifold. On mine, its under the throttle body...

Re: Replacing Sensors (Need Parts and Help)
This controls the gauge reading? My gauge isn't working and this sensor (in the location you described) is missing it's harness. Can I splice some wire between sensor and harness, assuming I find the right one?
I don't mean to hijack your thread, but maybe this will help us both. Thanks!

Re: Replacing Sensors (Need Parts and Help)
I have a single fan.
I would like to replace them so I have correct readings on my e-check. That and so its one last thing I have to buy new. Lol. Have a thing for new parts...no matter how good the stock may be. Thanks.

Yes, there certainly is something to be said for having things new in working order! I've been having some sensor issues and lots of electrical problems. I think more of my problems are being caused by faulty sensors than I originally thought. If I can figure it out soon, I'll post some remedies. Thanks for sharing the info!

Re: Replacing Sensors (Need Parts and Help)
rodie, I think if you do find the right wire for your temp gauge you can connect it with a new harness. I myself have to go to a junk yard since the harness on the fan switch also pretty much disintegrated (20yrs of heat on plastic takes its toll). I agree, I'd rather replace the oem sensor and connectors. Specially since they aren't "expensive" parts (max $15 for coolant temp sensor...) And the sensor are rather important to the diagnosing from the computer... No prob for the info. I'll take some more pics tomorrow after I (hopefully) have all of them installed. I'm learning along just like you guys...

Re: Replacing Sensors (Need Parts and Help)
I will be going to get my fan motor, hayden total fan control kit, coolant sensor, knock sensor NOW, and temp sensor, and o2. Thanks a bunch. I just thought there might be some aftermarket ones to try...I always see people talking about a heated 02 and a cooler 02...whats that about?

I'm not sure. I just got an oem replacement Bosch. I was think about that earlier today, about the temp and the lack of a cat...hhmm...ohwell. Only time will tell, then I'll tell you...

Re: Replacing Sensors (Need Parts and Help)
Man, this has turned into a very helpful, informative thread. Does the Hayden total fan control kit have a website? How much does it cost? I'm having an issue with my temp sensor/s (and gauge) and my fans not kicking on. I just bought a 195 degree thermostat and I'll see what that fixes if anything. That's because all of a sudden my radiator isn't flowing anymore, doesn't leave closed loop. Maybe I should check the temp sensor on pass. side head? If it doesn't seem to be turning out right, I'll look into some alternative. Thanks in anticipation!
