alternator wiring question
Ok i have a question... on a standard third gen alternator used on a 5.7 tpi from a 90's up firebird/camaro, what are the two wires that run from the upper plug? I know the one on the back goes to the battery and charges it, but what do the wires on the plug go to? one is the power that runs to the starter i believe what does the other go to? is it a ground or a ignition on power wire?

Re: alternator wiring question
thanks, your right. I figured it out today, but it was screwing me up because even with the wires set up correctly, red battery, brown excite, i wasn't getting and voltage reading from the back stud where the big red wire would go. so i just said screw it and hooked it up anyways and it indeed charged the battery. thanks for replying.

Re: alternator wiring question
a wire that is only hot when the motor is running. i hooked mine up to a pink wire with black line. i think it used to be part of the injector harness.
