starter wiring

Hey guys. I bought a mini high torque starter, threw it in my car, 91 5L TPI.
Now every time I turn the key forward and the car starts, for about 1 second, It makes that annoying sound starters make when you try to start your car but its already on. A friend told me It's wired wrong and that the starter is probably on all the time. I wired the new started just like the stock one was. All the big wires on the big post and the single purple wire on another post by itself.
Does this make sense?
Thank you in advance.

Re: starter wiring

Nope, you got it wired right. Sounds like the starter needs a shim!

Re: starter wiring

i had this problem too, it turned out to be that my key kept getting stuck up in the start position, and that kept the starter going the whole time.... dunno if that helps any...
