Perpetual ignition module failure, whats the cause?
Im having this issue. Ive had it with alot of modules. Old GM module, accel module, a whole boatload of GP Sorensen/BWD modules...
The symptoms are that after a certain period of time, the module just dies. There are no reference pulses OR ignition firings, which seems odd. Almost like the IC within the module is failing rather then the large switching transistor. Car runs fine, park it, and then, bam! Cranks but doesnt start. No reference pulses to the ECM, no coil firings. What could this be? Could a pickup coil cause this? Short on the reference signal wire? All grounds look good. Faulty coil replaced. Using best heatsink grease available. Car has lots of power so the ignition is working, but it just eats modules like its nobodys buisness.

Mine does as well
I just redid all the ignition system grounds and bought a new coil... Lets hope that fixes it.
I also sprung for the good heat sink grease. That stuff is expensive. Hopefully my issue will be resolved. I'll let you know how it works out the next time the mercury rises and I go driving.

How old are the connectors? Maybe they are leaking moisture. I've lost a module while driving in the rain a few times. The 8-pin connectors are right below the ledge the hood seals to. I don't dare open my hood if there is a speck of water on it because of it.
