Door locks and power mirrors?

My door locks and power mirrors stopped working which is a problem for me as when I bought the car I shaved the door locks off, and that is the only way I have to lock the car. I also noticed that the power mirrors arnt working now too and I checked the acc fuse and a few others that I thought might have something remotly to do with it. I cant figgure out why its not working any ideas? Does the two metal fuses have anything to do with it? Ive never checked them or have any Idea how to do it. Anyways any help would be appricated because I dont feel like randomly replacing things without having a good reason to do it.

Oh and this is for my 85 Trans am

Someone has to have an idea or at least a electrical diagram.

Re: Door locks and power mirrors?

thanks alot Im guessing its a fuse because I doubt there is a common ground so I need to figgure out if theres more then one because I hear the lock solinoid clicking for the door locks when I hit the door lock button on my car alarm but the door doesnt lock so its confusing me that it would do something like that.

Re: Door locks and power mirrors?

The metal "fuses" are circuit breakers. If you hear the solenoid clicking when you hit the lock button odds are in your favor the wiring is ok (assuming there is not a big voltage drop in them) I would be more inclined to get dirty and pull the door panels and see what is actually going on, make sure is isn't a linkage siezed which could solenoids could be drawing to much powewr onening athe circuit breaker. The switchs are powered by the CTSY fuse which energize the relay and the relay sends power to the solenoid from the ACC circuit breaker.

Re: Door locks and power mirrors?

humm I was thinking it was the metal fuse that was the problem with it is there anyway to check the damn things? But it doesnt look like the door locks and the mirrors are conected through the same set of fuses minus the ACC fuse. I think I checked it (the writing is scrached off on the fuse box so it makes it hard to tell which ones are which) But Im prity sure it was the right one. I hope its just a fuse issue and nothing major but the door lock wiring looks prity simple so Ill end up going through the whole thing if I have to.

Re: Door locks and power mirrors?

Ok so heres the deal apparently Im not getting power to the acc fuse or something because the fuse is good and the power acc breaker fuse is good (i replaced it today) Still not working so bottom line nothings getting power and the only reason the solinoid clicks over when I hit the door lock button on my alarm is because its spliced in and sends power to the solinoid itself. So bottom line I think I lost something under dash but I would love some ideas if anyone has any but the power windows are good and the hatch motor works so Im not sure what it is.

To check if the ACC fuse and the POW ACC circuit breaker are getting power, pull them out and put a volt meter or test light across the terminals in the fuse block. If the light comes on or you read 12 volts, the fuse/ circuit breaker are getting power.

The next place to check is the Fisher Body Jucntion Block, known as Connector C238. It is located in the "Upper Left Hand Shround" Check for voltage there also. Disconnect the leads from the fuse block and put the volt meter/ test light between them and good ground. There is a grond point under the dash on the left side of the steering column. Just look for the bolt with the black wires under it.

In the attachments below is a diagram of the 82 Fuse Block, the connection diagram for Connector C238 and a lociation sketch for Connector C238. It important item for the fuse block is to look at the rear view. This shows where the jumpers to C238 are connected, and the color of the connector. Note that each connector is keyed so it only fits on cavitiy and only inserts in one orientation.

To find the fuse block for your car, visit this link and look at the body wiring, part 2 for your model year. It will show the correct fuse/circuit breaker sizes and locations.

http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm

The serivce manual also recommends checking the grond connection it something does not work. For the power locks it appears that the ground is created by bolting the Door Lock Realy Assembly to the frame. The ground for the power mirriors is created by bolting a lug to the frame in the same area as the Door Lock Relay Assembly. Maybe they both use the same bolt which is loose?????

You will have to remove the driver's side kick panel to see all these items in the Left Hand Shround area. so you might as well check them all while you are there.

Re: Door locks and power mirrors?

huh well i ran a quick test a placed a 12v hot to the orange/black wire to see if giving the locking solinoid power would let me lock it sure enough when I use my car alarm it works so its deffinatly not getting power actaully the door lock buttons in the car still dont work so neather of the fuses are giving the circuit power which is interesting and I have no idea how i did it sence I assumed the ACC fuse was in charge of the dome lights power windows and the trunk but I guess not. So I will try some of the things you recomended me. Thanks alot.
