ok so here is my problem, i bought the car with an auto start, keyless entry combo, and then i wanted to use my fog lights one night because it was foggy and they didn't work so i said no biggy i'll have a look tomorrow, well i was looking at it and i figured out that the fog lights probably didn't work because of the relay cause i had no power going to the switch or fog lights so i climbed under the dash and found what i thought was my fog light relay, so i unpluged it and was going to get my buddy to through it on his 92 to see if the relay worked, so then i went to start the car....and nothing, it wouldn't turn over nore was the fuel pump turning on so i ended up pluggin it back in, now the so called relay is next to the auto start brain, did they by chance use my fog light relay for a relay to run the auto start, or was it not the right relay and the foglight relay is somewhere else?

 

most likely that relay is a starter kill relay. are you"re foglights the stock ones? Because most of the aftermarket fog light kits comes with a prewired harness that goes to the battery with a fuse and a relay and the relay usually stays underhood with those. as for the relay underdash. are wires from the remote start brain going to the relay? do thick yellow wires from the ignition switch go to it??

 

if anything follow your foglight wires and run them to a switch...thats what i did.

 

yes the relay is used for the ignition and it does have the thick yellow wires coming from it going to the brain. i called a stereo shop to ask if they had ever heard of such a thing about the fog light relay being used for the autostart and he told me in some cases places do to cut corners...to me that makes no sense....why would they ever do that to a factory fog light system, and yes the foglights are factory....and i have wired them up without a relay, but it would be nice to keep it stock...but anyone know exactly where the factory relay was located on a 1991 Z'
