Rear Mount Battery Wire
Where is the safest place to run wire from a rear mount battery. Also would you take all of the wires that regulary would run off the battery and run them to the positive post on the alternator or where would you wire them too.
Re: Rear Mount Battery Wire
a lot of that is going to depend on what you are putting in the battery for. di you just want to move it to the rear or are you doing it for racing and what not. If you are doing it for racing there are certain requirements that you must follow for it to be legal. i.e. sealed battery box, rear outside mounted power cutoff switch, securely mounted. depending on how you want to use it would change how you would wire everything up.

Re: Rear Mount Battery Wire
I just went through this so I can think I can be some help. You want to run a cutoff switch if you ever want to race the car at the track which needs to be mounted in the rear of the car (I put mine in the tail light). For the cutoff switch to work properly, your accessories cannot be run straight from the battery. In my case, I ran a #2 wire from my battery to my starter. From the starter post I ran a #8 wire to a fuse block that I run my electric water pump, fuel pump, electric fan and MSD box from. This way when you shut the switch off in the back, all the accessories will shutoff too. The only wire running back to the battery should be your alternator, that way there is no chance of the car running on when the switch is turned off.
Also, a piece of advice- don't underestimate the cost of this modification. A good Moroso battery box is $100, you will need 15 feet of #2 wire to run to the starter which is about $70, 15 feet of #2 wire to run to the block (ground) which is another $70, 18 feet of #4 wire to run from the alternator back to the battery $50 and a nice Moroso cutoff switch $50. You can easily have $350-$400 into this modification when it is all said and done, not to mention time.

Re: Rear Mount Battery Wire
I don't drag race. I have a Optima Red Top so it is sealed. I was going to use one of those BMR Battery Relocation mounts in the pass.side wheel well. Would you run the wire under the car and up through the drainage hole in the wheel well or run it through the interior. I have a choice of 1/0 wire or 2/0 wire. Unlimited lengths for free. Very Nice.
Re: Rear Mount Battery Wire
you are probably better off looming the cable with some flex loom and clamping it all the way down on the underside of the car. 1/0-2/0 wire is thick and hard to get under the interior plastics and manuver around the car. just go to any hardware store and get some cushion clamps and clamp the wire down every couple inches and u should be good. that's how we run all the battery cables on the ambulances I wire never had a problem
Re: Rear Mount Battery Wire
whatever is solid and can hold the weight of the wire securely. I use stainless steel 1/4-20 thread by one inch self tapping pan head screws when i clamp battery cables. they hold well and won't rust.
