Fuel Wiring

Can anyone tell me a pretty detailed explanation of where the wiring from the fuel guage to the tank is? My guage works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. Actually, if $10 doesnt get approx. a half a tank then it never worked haha. I need to trace it to figure out why it isnt working. I deleted the electric fuel pump due to not getting pressure from tank to carb.

Re: Fuel Wiring

The fuel sender wire goes from the fuel tank through connector C313 behind the rear seats into the cab and then runs down to the floor under the carpet, to the driver side door and then along the door to the kick panel and up into the dash.

I think the wire on your year/model is pink but cannot guarantee it because I don't have any detailed schematics for 1987.

You might want to check also the ground wire. It's the black wire on the same C313 connector. It runs into the cab but where exactly it ends and bolts to the body, I don't know.

Hope this helps.

Re: Fuel Wiring

Thank you, I will check all that out as soon as possible. Am I right when my fuel guage shows 1/2 tank with around $10 worth of gas? Or has it not been running accurately the whole time?

Re: Fuel Wiring

All our gages are very imprecise to begin with. And especially the gas gauge is not linear. So if you put $10 of gas in the car (3 gallons maybe?) and it shows 1/2 full, then it might take you another $30 of gas to get it to full. The gas gauge moves faster on its left half.
