another vats question
First let me start off by saying if your solution is to disable vats don't post here. Im swapping a vats column into a vats equipped car. I do not want to switch the ignition lock and would like to use the key for the new column. Can I swap over the vats module into the car? if so does anyone have pics of where the module or its location so I can get an idea of what Im looking for.

Re: another vats question
There are two options:
- yes, you can swap in the VATS box from the same car where you got the steering column.
- or you can pay for a new key that will fit the new cylinder but the resistance for you old VATS box.
The only thing I know about the VATS box location is that it is hidden deep inside the dash. Not sure where exactly. I'm sure somebody will chime in shortly with a pic or diagram.

Re: another vats question
i believe its behind the dash on the pass side. if looking at the front it would be between the center vents and the symbol on he dash (iroc, z28, rs etc). if you take the dash pad off you might even be able to see it, might have to look through the windshield though

Re: another vats question
Check the value of the original column's key. Go on ebay and buy a blank with the same value for around 8 bucks. Then have a locksmith cut the new column's key into the blank with the old columns value. Then you have a key and will probably get out cheaper than any other way, since you don't want to bypass it.
I've bought a blank for myself, but I haven't checked who could cut it. I know Lowe's has a machine that they just stick the original in on side and blank in on the other. I don't know if they will work with the chip in the key. A lot of the smaller "mom and pop" hardware stores still have the old ones with the clamps that will be able to accommodate odd keys, since the keys with the pellets are a bit longer than the ones with out. Or take it to a professional locksmith who can cut it by hand
Good Luck.
