FPH FUEL sending unit?

I am in need of a new sending unit and I was told I need to check to see if I need an FPH sending unit and to check the wiring harness for a print of FPH on the sending unit? Am I checking the right spot? What is it and if I dont have it what does it mean?

Re: FPH FUEL sending unit?

The letters will be on a yellow piece of paper taped to the harness that comes off the connector comming from sender/pump. The only thing I can think of is that the letters designate particular lengths of harness... as bizzare as that sounds. My sending unit is out on my z, and have yet to replace it. I keep hearing over and over that any sender will work, but you have to cut and spice wires. I finally bought one(sender) off of a member here and am hoping that I can get it in soon. MY letters are FPC, my connectors are black and the sender I bought are yellow.

Cheers!!!

Re: FPH FUEL sending unit?

A picture is worth a thousand words !!!!!

The first pic is from an 1983 Carb: "FAA"

The second pic is from an 1986 MPFI: "FEM"

All of the Carb Pick-up connectors I've seen are black and have 2 wires - just for the fuel guage. Most of the MPFI, TBI and TPI connectors I've seen are yellow - but I've seen Orange as well. Those are 3 wire plugs, The additional wire is for the Fuel Pump.

Re: FPH FUEL sending unit?

Thank you for the pics, that is helpful. However, my crossfire car I was talking about had a 3 prong and it's black. I wonder if it's set up by year?
