Relay Locations

Well, I have been trying to figure out what the wires on a relay box I got off a parts car are. I am guessing that the orange wires are the power for the box. The car had power windows and defrost. I am trying to wire my car that had no defrost or power options to have defrost, power windows, and power locks. Can I do this with what I have here? If so, how can I wire them in and what wires are what on the box?

Here is the picture of the box: http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/2327/40600170pd1.jpg

Thanks

Re: Relay Locations

what wires are what on the box
The wires can be for what ever you want them to be for. They are in no particular order.

There should be And ORANGE wire and a PINK wire running from the back of your fusebox to this junction box. If you do not have those wiring connections you will need to get them. If you didn't unplug them from the back of the fusebox when you pulled this junction out you probably cut them.

The Orange lead from the fusebox goes to one side of the junction box for constant power and the Pink lead from the fuse box is for "switched" power ( with the ignition.) Most of the options you are trying to install will plug directly into the junction - in no particular order. Power door locks get power all the time ( have a Orange power wire ) - plug that connector under the ORANGE lead. Rear hatch wiper motor gets power with the ignition. ( has a Pink power wire ) Plug this in the junction undere the Pink Lead.

Look at the attached image to see what the power leads from the fusebox look like:

Thanks for the information. It seems that I must have cut the power cords. I noticed that my car has the orange power connector coming out of the fuse box (hot all the time) but I don't see a pink one. Is there any reason that my car would have one without the other?

Also, I have another connector that fits the pink side and has one orange and 3 white wires coming out of it. Any idea what that is for?

Thanks again

Yup,...... The Pink connections are used on certain options, Rear wiper, Power Windows, Power Antenna ( I think ). If your car didn't have these options than there is no reason to install the fusebox link.

They should only be pink wired leads coming of that side. I have no idea what that plug your refering to is for. My only guess is maybe for underdash lighting - those are the only white wires I can think of right now.

Re: Relay Locations

I don't think the plug is for the under dash lights since it seems my car did not come with any. I'll have to look around a little more and try to figure it out. To add power windows and locks, do I have to connect the window power wire to the pink side of the box and the power lock power wire to the orange side?

Thanks again

Re: Relay Locations

I ran into a problem when I got the secondary power box hooked up. The always on side works fine, but the key on side does not work even when the key is on. It seems that there is no power to the spot I plugged the pink cable into the fuse box, but its in the same spot as it was on the car I pulled it from. Any reason this would happen?

Thanks
