700r4 to th400 how to hook up mech to electic speedometer??

i am converting from a 700r4 to a th400, is there a how to etc on how to convert the mechanical drive on the th400 to the vss of a th700?? Thanks

It's more common to see fourth gens keep the electronic speedo, since most thirdgens where cable.

i installed the painless wiring adaptor and also the gears. the gears mesh well and i cant get a reading on the speedometer. what wires am i supposed to hook to where? thanks in advance

Here is my problem i am putting in a newer 700r4 tranny in replace of my 1986 700r4. they both are 30 spline. but the one i am putting in is electronic how can i convert back to cable on the electronic speedo sensor. i heard you can pull the cable module off and put it in replace the electronic sensor is this true?. any info please need help. i have both transmissions out so it wont' be hard to do just need info if i need to do any modifications?

If yours is like mine, you can swap them out, yes. Borg Warner has a part with BOTH TYPES of connections on it, in case you should ever need. I cannot recall the part number, but I remember that it cost about $100 or so, and It was stocked in a couple O'Reilly Warehouses nationwide. Might take a couple days for them to network it to ya, but really is a cool idea!

:P tranny is not manual. its automatic but thank you for the input they swapped out no problems going to have to have one of my friends clock me to find out if the speedometer is correct or not but seems like everythign work out great. ty for the info tho.
