Re: Projector Headlights

If you are using H4 bulbs in your car the problem has to do with your Headlight switch being overloaded. The stock headlights for the car are only meant to draw something like 55 watts of power and most H4 bulbs draw somewhere around 90 watts. You need to go onto summit and look up the harness that APC sells. What the harness does is it draws current off the battery directly instead of only through the headlight switch thus alleviating the overload on the headlight switch. There are other ways to make it work with relays and such but by far the easiest solution for this problem is the aforementioned harness.

Re: Projector Headlights

I would like to see these lamps on a Camaro before I but them. I upgraded to HIDs a while back, would love to get projector housings though. I currently have E code housings, which are still pretty damn good. I put HIDs in my dad Acura with projector housings, way better then conventional housings.

Re: Projector Headlights

Perhaps a stupid question... but is there any modification required? Or is it just a direct swap?

Reason I ask is because I think you have to rewire stuff to get the H4 to work.

Re: Projector Headlights

I had to modify the bracket that holds the housing by making the hole in the bracket bigger because the rubber grommet that seals the bulb in the back was to big to just slide in. I didn't have to rewire anything just pugged in the bulbs and haven't had any problems so far and I have had them for about 6 months

Re: Projector Headlights

the set I bought on ebaymotors, came with short harness to plug and play. real easy. and yeah i had to cut the back of the bucket that holds the lights more to get them to fit. well worth it though.

Re: Projector Headlights

I think there is a little bit of confusion here. HIDs are not always projectors and projectors are not always HIDs. FWIW, those projector housings up top are worthless. I had those on my bird when I first got it and they do nothing but look cool. They don't actually 'project' the light any different than a free form housing and will just mess with the beam pattern. If you want good projectors you'll have to retrofit them into a free form housing and for all the work you'll do with that, you'll still have standard plug in bulbs. I'd take a little more time and money and get some good (Read: not ebay specials) HIDs. That means, the capsules, ballasts, projectors, and wiring. They'll actually suck less power than those higher wattage h4 setups and put out tons more light.
