Gauge Cluster Lights

So my cigarette lighter has has this problem with shorting out when u try to use the actual cigarette lighter not anything else. My friend used it and it blew the fuse so no biggie I went and changed it. Now that fuse i believe powers my horn, cigarette lighter, interior lights and stereo. So all the stuff came back on but now my gauge cluster and my shifter lights and ac lights wont come on?!?! I checked my fuse box and everything seems to be fine.

And heres what i really dont get, last time i blew the fuse for the gauge cluster my tailights whent out but this time the gauges dont work but the taillights do.

Does anybody have any idea whats goin on? And it case it matters, my third brake light is out.

Re: Gauge Cluster Lights

Take a look in this thread. You will find a circuit diagram for the guage cluster lights. Note that there are two fuses in this circuit. The main source is the TAIL fuse which feeds power to the tail lights and the guage cluster lights. The INST fuse is the fuse in the circuit that directly feeds the guage cluster.

You may want to verify that it is not blown. The CTSY fuse feeds the cigarette lighter. It is a serparate circuit from the Tail Light and Insturment Light circuits.

You might also want to take a look at this link for general wiring diagrams for your model year.

Wow thanks I really didn't know that there was two seperate fuses in this circuit. Ok so im sure that the CTSY fuse is fine but im having trouble finding the INST fuse. Do you have any idea where this is because although I appreciate the diagram, its like reading spanish to me at this point. Is this fuse in the dash box with the others and I perhaps just overlooked it?

Re: Gauge Cluster Lights

The the fuse is in the FUSE BLOCK under the driver's side dash. It is labeled INST LPS on the block and should be a 5 Amp fuse. Print out Figure 27 from the above link and take it with you under the dash for reference. The ECM fuse will be towards the driver's seat the INST LPS fuse will be toward the engine compartment.

if you check the fuses and that is not the problem, I would check the dimmer switch. Thats the problem I had with my lights, and I ended up replacing all the wiring in the dash and they still did not work. The whole thing turned out to be a blown dimmer switch.

thats true but when i did check the fuses it was pretty dark out so i could have made a mistake.....and im not sure if it could be the dimmer switch because when i push the little dimmer wheel up until it click, then the interior lights come on...so its gotta be getting power....unless that dosent matter

problem solved!

for some reason the fuse wasnt there at all. I may have knocked it out when i was screwing around with it but thanks for your help because otherwise it would have been awhile until i figured it out because theres plenty of open slots under there
