3 Unhooked Wires, Anybody recognise?
Hi, I have 3 unhooked cables in my engine bay. I do not know what they are, hoping somebody can help me out. The car is an 86 Trans Am.
Cable #1: picture attached. It runs from behind the centre of the engine along passenger side of the engine bay, and was found hanging underneath the fan at the front.

Cable 3: Picture attached. Comes out of corner of bay, passenger side.
Any help would be appreciated, the car is all over the place (the way I bought it).

The first one is either a plug for a fan motor or a fuse holder. What color are the wires? The second one I don't know. The third is for the A/C pressure switch on the accumulator.

The second one(if it is blue) could be the wire for the choke. Is yours hooked up? Is your car computer controlled?

Cable 2 is brown. I am not sure if by default it is computer controlled. I have pics here https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...t=#post3510160 but it appears the whole car has been butchered all over the place.

The wire could still be the choke. I am guessing your car was computer controlled, but isn't now. I am not up to speed with the carb cars, so maybe someone will chime in on that one. If it was computer controlled, the first one was probably the fuse holder for the ECM fuse.

Thanks for the help bingo. Tomorrow I will see if I can figure out if there is a thermo-spring or something on that clutch, see what I can figure out.
If that was the ECM fuse, wouldn't that be essential to having the car run? (or atleast on a fuel injection, right?)

If the computer controlled stuff is gone it is no longer needed.

Re: 3 Unhooked Wires, Anybody recognise?
The lt.blue wire is to the Choke on the Q-jet. There is a relay under the dash (right of the column) in whats called the convenience center. This has the flasher and a couple relays that plug in. The Conv Center swings down like the fusebox. Once the ignition is on, the relay is activated and sends a voltage down that wire to heat the coil element in the choke housing. Your sig says 87 305 4bbl which should be a 305 (h) LG4 that has or had a ComputerControlled Q-jet.
The wire looks brown from all the dirt and grime accumilated on it. Its Lt.Blue underneath that grime. There was a plastic terminal housing at one time on it too. The housing was gray plastic. The fuses that supply the Choke Heater Relay are : C/H FAN (20amp) and GAGUES (10amp)
I concur the 1st pic looks like a OEM radiator fan plug and the last pic is of the accumilator switch plug.
Hope this helps
