No power, and what are these wires???

Ok I have just replaced the positive battery cable because it was missing about a foot of insulation and now there is no power. the battery is good, the positive cable is going to the starter, a positive wire is going to the back of the alternator, the negative battery cable is bolted to the back of the a/c compressor (is that where it goes?) anyway I have these wires with no home and I don't know where they go, any help will help

The wires in the first pic need to go on the starter where you put the new battery cable. The other wires I'm not sure, but could just be a prevoius owners amplifier wiring,or some other kind of accessory.

Re: No power, and what are these wires???

As Timmy already pointed out, the orange wires from the first pictures are the power supply wires that attach to the big positive wire on the starter. They go into the car, to the fusebox and such. That's the MAIN power source for your car. While you have them out, I'd sand them nicely to make sure they have good contact. The black cylindrical things on the wires are those dreaded fusible links. They are like a fuse but stronger. If they (go* forbig) burn out, they would need to be replaced, just like a fuse.

Ok, enough of education.

The second picture does not show where the black wire goes. Can you trace it and see where it connects? It could be an extra ground from the battery but who knows, it might be also an extra positive.

The third wire "might" be the underhood light wire, it certainly looks like it. Is it orange or red? Has it always been the way it is now? When does it have voltage (if any)?

As for the big negative cable, I am not absolutely sure where it goes but anywhere on the block is good. The back of the A/C compressor is not the best place, I'd bolt it directly to the block. I'm sure somebody will chime in with the exact location.

Hope this helps!
Lou
