installing an alternator

so in search of a new alternator i bought one off of summit racing. it says its supposed to fit, and it looks like it will. now the question is how do i put it in. its an 86 camaro z28. with a 305 TPI. at first i thought u just unbolt the old one take off the belt, loosen bracket, and bam its off. but now i see that apart from the wires that have a little plastic clip that clip onto the alternator, what goes on the back?i see a red post, kinda like a battery one but much smaller. what wire goes there?

Re: installing an alternator

If you are changing your old one out, just reverse the process. The red wire on the rear of the alternator comes from the positive battery cable. Just be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable before you start - you don't want sparks flying when you disconnect the red wire from back of alt. Should be a smooth swap out.
