Manual T5 Neutral Switch?

Hey All,

I've got a '91 RS Convertible, 5 Speed Manual. 305 TBI. I'm told to assume the stock transmission is a T5. This being said, doing some google-ing and i know at least the Ford T5 has a neutral safety switch (I'm guess the only difference between a ford, jeep, GM T5 is the gear ratios and bell housing and such).

Does anyone know if my car above would have a neutral safety switch already? The Haynes manual doesn't seem to show one. And if it doesn't, anyone know any reason why i couldn't install one.

FYI - I'm looking to use the neutral safety switch when i go to install a remote start. Obviously, i'm not a fan of 'just remember to leave it out of gear' theory.

Thanks for any help guys.

You've got a clutch switch, not a neutral switch.

Yea, the plan is to tap off of those wires (purple/yellow i think), so that the car will start with the clutch depressed and/or the gear is in Neutral.

Re: Manual T5 Neutral Switch?

Sorry, I have never seen a domestic with a neutral switch.
I also needed one and had to make it myself.

Some remote start systems are smart, though. They have you park the car, leave it in neutral and running and exit the vehicle. When you push the button to lock the doors, it shuts down the engine. Then when you press the remote start button next time, it assumes that nobody has broken into the vehicle and put it in gear and can start the car.
