Weird problem with lights

Yes I searched, but most everything was Firebird related or the symptoms were different. I was driving my '88 iroc tonight, and after about a half mile the headlights quit for a few seconds and then came back on. Shortly after, they quit again and did not work until I came to a stop. They worked for a few more seconds and have not come back on since. The headlights, park lights, tail lights, interior lights, power door locks, hatch release and horn ALL quit working. The emergency flashers, brake lights, rear defog and radio still work. If I turn the headlight **** to turn on the interior lights, they do not work. This seems to me like a very strange combination of electrical failures and all the fuses seem to be good with the exception of the ACC fuse. It was a little melted looking in the center but was not blown. I replaced that fuse, but that fixed nothing. I did not see or smell any burnt wires. Can anyone please help me?!

Re: Weird problem with lights

Doesn't sound particularly unusual or weird to me....

Sounds like a fusible link. There's 2 of em down at the starter, where the car hooks up to the battery; each feeds about half the circuits in the car. All the lights, among other things which your car may or may not be equipped with or you just haven't noticed, are fed from one of them.

Re: Weird problem with lights

UPDATE:
I went out to the car tonight to move it into the driveway. When I opened the door, the interior lights came on. Out of curiosity i started checking other things and I found that the power locks, hatch and horn were working again. So I decided to try the headlights and as soon as I pulled out the headlight ****, everything stopped working again. Could this just be a bad headlight switch? I wont be able to look at the car in the daylight until saturday.
