on my car there is a un-used grommet under the power steering booster, so i believe it would be behind the brake pedal, down low

Like jamesC, i ran it through the existing grommet located just behind the drivers cylinder head. Mine is getting kind of crammed though, theres 3 additional wires, a copper oil pressure line, and a 3/8 vacuum hose squeezed through. So plenty of space.
There is also another grommet, just behind the passenger side cylinder head, with fewer wires. But it is also tighter.
And finally there is a grommet that your antenna runs through. I ran my power wire for my amp through there. Its completely hidden.
Grommets are easy to enlarge, or even drill an adjacent hole, same size as your wires.

Re: a good place to get wires through firewall
For those that have (or plan to) disable the computer (ie go carb) ...
I left the passenger wiring harness in tact on mine - this allows me to have many wires already running through the firewall - I just find one outside, match it inside, and splice into it on each end.
For applications needing more juice than those small ECM wires can handle, I simply use a relay on the outside, and the switch inside just powers the relay (ie foglights).
I also utilized this area for my amp wiring, but I drilled through the metal beside the passenger harness with a 5/8 bit into the fenderwell, put a piece of fuel line over the amp wire, and ran it through this hole - it took some time to bully the amp wire with the fuel line on it through the hole, but it's self sealing (since the fuel line barely fits in the 5/8 hole, and the amp wire is totally protected from rubbing the bare metal with that extra rubber fuel line around it.
