87 GTA, distributor rotor stuck!

Hey guys
I'm new to the board. I'm attempting to replace the rotor in the distributor, but it seems to be fused to the distributor shaft. Does anyone know how to un-fuse this thing without damaging the rest of the distributor? Thanks!

UPDATE Re: 87 GTA, distributor rotor stuck!

Hey everyone
I just wanted to share my recently discovered super easy solution for solving this problem. If you use a pair of vice-grip pliers and simply adjust it slightly smaller than the diameter of the rotor shaft, it will shatter apart when clamped without damaging a thing. Hope thats helpful!

1st of all, welcome to TGO! (incase someone hasn't already) and
2nd, I'm sorry I didn't see this thread earlier, but yes, you found the solution. I was having ignition issues a while back so I decided to upgrade all the ignition which included a cap and rotor from Accel. And the only way I got my 20yr old rotor is to "chisel" it off and yes, it just shattered and I used pliers to get it all off, plastic rotor vs. metal distributor, no problem... simply slipped on the new rotor and used a rubber mallet to tap it a bit to make sure its seated properly...

It sounds like that is more or less the method of choice for this particular project... One piece of advice I might as well ad, using a dab of dielectric grease makes this whole process a lot easier. Thanks for getting back to me HCR13, this forum has already proven itself most useful!
