on a lighter note...

Looking for one of those remote control setups you can hook up to anything 12v's, all i have found in town is the on off ones for lighting, i am looking for one with a momentary setup, anyone have one or know which is gonna be the best to get.....thanks all

what are u looking to do? if you plan on adding a remote start or a security system most of those have all sorts of aux channels. you can use those channels for anything from rolling down your windows to turning on wig-wags if you have the parts and the knowledge.

its actually for the wicked nasty train horns on my diesel i was thinking like a two channel so can control the compressor and then a momentary for the actual horns, if you've seen the videos on hornblasters.com...well lets just say not being in the truck i "miss some oppurtunities"

Re: on a lighter note...

what kinda truck is it?

ok how i would do this is get a dei alarm, remote start or combo (i say that because that is what i have expeience with.) aside from the regular hook ups of the alarm, using a relay hook up the defrost ( i think its called something else on the wiring diagram but if u read the book they recommend it for the defrost). the wire it self puts out a minimal amount of power not nearly enough to kick your compressor up. this will keep your compressor circuit energized for about 10-15 minutes if i remember correctly (you can probably adjust it too) or by repeating the button sequence it will also shut it off. then use the aux wire to honk the horn, you will have to hold the aux down for rougly 5 seconds before it honks (its a safty thing because it is designed for trunk pops and people dont want their trunks opening on accident. if you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself im sure the installers at any local place would love to do it, i know if u would have brought something like this to me when i was doing it i would have loved it.

Re: on a lighter note...

thats a good body style, if u plan on doing it yourself ill give u a few pointers: your going to need either a bypass for the pass key or to throw a resistor in it. I had a couple of situations (mostly on impalas) where cheaping out with just a resistor didnt work. and make sure you hook up that wait to start light input wire, or else it will crank prematurely on those cold mornings. good luck!
