Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

Wow, finally got around to doing this on my '97 3800 firebird.

Didn't have a dremel so I took the power drill and finally got it right. I might hot glue the socket into place incse it slides and pops out of the hole but it doesn't have too far to fall back so it probably doesn't matter.

If you feel you're too dumb to install it, you're not since I always **** up wiring and did it in a half hour.

All you need is three dual fillament sockets unless you wanna rig up the single fillament outter one which won't look as cool. Pretty much with the three wire sockets (dual fill.), brown and black stay on the stock hookups. Those are your ground and brake lights. The only wire that goes into the STS is the blinker. Inner, outter, and middle ones all go into the 1,2,3 slots. In one of the slots, you need a wire going from your car's blinker to the STS.

That's with the generic instructions I used on my car. Blinker wire was yellow on my car and the GM/Jeep socket I had was white.

Highly reccomend this to anyone.

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

That would be the first 4th gen a STS has gone too, that I know of.

On my GTA, I just swapped out the 2 single filament bulbs in the outers for duals like the inner 4.

I hope nobody gets the idea that ALL cars require dremelling the housings & putting sockets in, cause you don't.

AND, I think you broke the cardinal rule of posting....talking about you mod with no video!

Stephen's all sold out.
That was the last planned batch.
But if people beg enough, who knows, there might be another batch. Not anytime in near future, though.

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

Would someone be kind enough to send me links or some details on what all has to be done in order to implement this change? Pics of the finished product (in motion, if possible) would be grand....send them to my email -warreagle@hotmail dot com (I'm at work, blogs and forums are blocked, as well as streaming media) TIA!

oh yeah....I see Stephen's sig, it's just small...BTW, anyone know how many bulbs this setup will support? Thinking I might get a little creative.

Stephen,
Please add me to the list (don't have PM -another blocked thing at work), but am interested, and even already have a second set of grids to toy with.

Each connection might be able to handle 2 bulbs per output, meaning lighting 2 per step, but it is still limited to 3 steps total.

Cool. Nice sounding exhaust!

Hit your brakes & see how they light up. I didn't realize how they did it for quite awhile! Had to get somebody to hit the brakes for me, to see it.

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

Alright, I just have a little update.

I went on eBay and found an adjustable flasher unit. Got it yesterday and installed it today. Thankfully it didn't cost much and it was real easy to install. I'm much happier with the way my tails look now. It's really cool how it works and if I want to change the speed it's easy to get to.

http://80sknight.homedns.org:8080/JennTail/
Go to JennTail02.AVI

I do have to say this site is great. There is a lot of information that I have found very helpful. The latest was finding the flasher. I didn't know I had to take that black box down to get to it. Once I did, it went really fast.

Thanks guys.

Got a link to the eBay unit you used? I've always wanted a slower flasher, or one that would pause after the 3rd bulb, before restarting the flash sequence.

Yeah, I've got one. If you hurry you can still get one... As of right now it's got 20 Minutes left.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...2BSI%26otn%3D2

I'm sure he'll relist it when the auction ends. This morning my hubby got one for his 86 TA.

I like having more control over the speed of the flasher.

$1 listing.......$26 shipping?!?!

I don't deal with people like that. Charge a HONEST price...charge a HONEST shipping cost & I'll buy. I'll go for a listing of $20 price, $7 shipping, before I'll buy for that listed "price".

He's charging double his cost, I bet.

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

Beware of auctions like that. The price is usually below a dollar (even 1 cent sometimes!) and the shipping is outrageous.
Then if they "accidentaly" ship you a bad part, they just say "oops, we'll refund your money" and you'll get your penny back. By fleaBay, it's fine, it's by the book. But the customer gets the shaft.

Feel free to report such a listing to fleaBay. I believe they have a category "Unreasonable shipping" or so.

Try reporting crap like that..fleaBay makes it EXTREMELY hard to actually report things. Instead, you get taken to q Answer section that is SUPPOSED to answer you, instead of bothering them with actually DOING something about it.

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

Yeah, I don't like to get stuff from sellers like that either, but after a thorough search on both the internet and on eBay, I couldn't find anything similar. The closest thing to it was for motorcycles. This is the way I saw it. Either I get this one from this seller, or I go without. I checked his feedback and it was all good, so I went for it. Will I buy anything else from this seller? I highly doubt it. For the most part I stay away from sellers like this one. Once isn't going to kill me, especially at $26. Now if it would have cost more I would have gone without.

No one is making you get from this seller. Since this guy made it, maybe Lou could make one that's better. After all he did create the sequential turn signal unit we all enjoy.

Anyway, I think I'll go back to the shadows now... I stay out of trouble that way. Keep up the good work guys.

You are connecting the light blue wire to the white wire to integrate your turn signals with the brake lights.

Then AFTER you rewire the taillights per the rest of the instructions, the brake pedal will light up all red lights in the back and the turn signals will light up only one side. Like on a GTA.

Hope this helps.

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

But the marker light connection isn't neseccary. Only if you want ALL your bulbs to light together, do you use the marker light conection.

Without it, they light A...B...C...then all stay lit until the pedal is released. With i connected, it is used to signal the STS unit to light all gthe bulbs together, like they would stock.

For the full conversion, like in my avatar, yes, A dual filament socket & bulb needs to be swapped in. Same as I had to to. For a Camaro, you'd hafta do the translucent paint amber to red conversionon the lenses.

Not sure how red-red-amber turn/brake lights would look or go over well to others, seeing them in action.

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

To sum it up for a Camaro STS conversion:
#1 the amber turn signal needs a dual-filament bulb and the lens needs to be painted red with Testors Translucent Candy Apple Red spray paint (available at your local SprawlMart).
#2 the outer tail light needs a dual-filament bulb

Then you're ready to put the STS to full use.
Unless you want only two bulbs per side flashing and in that case, you can leave out #2.

Hope this helps.

Wal Mart HAD it, but since they seemed to have stopped carrying 1/25 scale models, they might not anymore.

Any hobby store, like Hobby Lobby, should carry it.

Might get it at auto parts stores too. Never looked, so I dunno.

Sadek, if you can't find the Candy Apple Translucent Red at your location, let me know and I can look if I have any leftover.
I REALLY want to see a Camaro with all-red tail lights and STS on them!!!

Not ORDERS, but I'm keeping a list interested parties. If you are interested, I can add your name to the list. Just say so.....

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

Well, I'm not making them anymore.

They aren't being made anymore. Someday, there MIGHT be another batch made (biult in batches of 20) but due to only 5 people intersted in the last 2 months, it is very doubtful more will be made.

Spread the word to your friends, regardless of what kind of car, and if there is enough interest, we'll make another batch. These are universal. They'll fit ANY lights. Dodge Durango with the 2 bulbs per front? They'll fit. You want "fancy" lights blinking inside your car? They'll work. 2 simple inputs & 6 outputs.

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

The stock flasher remains. It is a custom designed circuit board, hand built, module.

Here's the pic of it going in FYRCHKN's car.

Re: Universal Seqqential Turn Signals - Round 3

Hey Stephen I got a question on the STS.

When you turn on your hazards, does it blink all the lights at once or in sequence?

Also, any new on a possible round 4?
