Unhooked wire on pump

I just bought a 92 Z for 600 dollars and after looking over I found out he changed the pump by cutting a hole in the floor.https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...tml?highlight= I looked at the wiring and discovered he had ran speaker
wire from the ECM to the pump. I got a little curious and lifted the pump assembly and seen a wire coming from the
pump area and it was not hooked to anything. The car ran ok but the pump seem to stay on with the key in the on
position. Is this the fuel pump prime wire?

Re: Unhooked wire on pump

if it's the green with white stripe wire coming off the ECU (terminal A1 if you look closely at the plugs), then yes that is the "prime" wire, but it hooked up terribly wrong. There is supposed to be a relay hooked up to the system, of which he by-passed, and yes, it will stay on as long as the ignition is in the "on" position because there is no signal wire going back to the ECU to let it know that it's getting the power needed.

Re: Unhooked wire on pump

I lifted the top of the pump assembly up about 3 inches and looked into the tank and there are several wires. I seen one twist tied together with another one leading out of the tank but there is one that is not hooked up. I think there is a total of three going to the pump. I am lucky he didnt blow me up!

Re: Unhooked wire on pump

should be tan, purple, and then black (may vary by age but that seems to be pretty universal). Tan is fuel pump +, purple is your fuel guage level +, and black is the ground for both. If your purple wire isn't hooked up, thats probably why your gas guage most likely doesn't work. My only assumption of that is because you said that your pump turns on meaning the tan wire is hooked up to the speaker wire going to the ECU, and the black ground wire is hooked up, and if you say there is a wire not hooked up, that leaves the fuel level/guage wire. Just a logical guess...but what color is the wire?

I think your right. The fuel guage didnt work. I guess that should of been obvious to me. Thanks
