power dies tranny goes wont crank

just had a new engine put in my car by a shop and the car ran great for about 4 hours and then the lights started to dim in the car and the windows stoped working. I lost all power and couldnt crank the car over. around the same time my car stoped going into 3rd gear and wouldnt go over 40-45 mph. Is the electrical problem due to a ground, bad altenater, or a bad battery. Also i want to know if the tranny problem could be related to the electrical problem at all? thanks

-Chris

The first thing I would check are the connections to the alternator.

Second, check the voltage at the battery with the engine off, and with
the engine on. If the meter doesn't read about 14.0 VDC with the engine
running, there is something wrong with the charging circuit.

sounds a lot like the alternator, did you install a new one? or used the old one? its most likely the alternator has gone bad or its a bad connection......
