battery relocation
battery relocation
i am planning on installing an slp cold air intake on my 87 iroc and need to relocate the battery to the rear. i have had the intake for a while and want to do the mods before i drop in the new engine. i know that hawks makes a kit to mount the battery in the spare tire compartment, but i would prefer keeping the spare, since this is a driver. i temporarily removed the glove box and i made a template for the battery mount. i plan on having a base made from the template to secure the battery. before i do this, i was concerned about the venting the battery. i can probably come up with an acceptable vent for the compartment, but i wanted to see if anyone has relocated a battery to the glove box area, and what you did as far as venting. the electrical is not and issue. any ideas or sugestions are very welcome. thanks.

Re: battery relocation
you have a glove box in your thirdgen?
That's where the computer, and heater ducting is placed in most of them.
Furthermore, summitracing.com sells NHRA approved vented boxes, but it would need to be mounted in the well in back, I doubt the dash area has enough room for a fullsize battery.

Re: battery relocation
yes, i have a glove box, or storage box with a lock, located on the rear drivers side well, opposite the spare tire well. not as much room on that side as there is on the spare tire side, but adequate room for a battery to be mounted. by being a bit creative, this should work with no problems. i can access the new battery compartment through the existing "glove box" door, although the battery will not fit through the existing door opening. the complete removal of the rear panel on that side is not necessary to take the battery in or out. it will not be as easily accessible as the tire side, but the battery does not come out too often.
