Re: alternator wiring qustions

I think the red wire controls the voltage regulator and brown goes to the voltage gauge and black which mine doesn't have so not sure why your plug has would be more then likely a ground. The lug on the back of the alternator is obviously the charging wire .... Hope that helps.

Re: alternator wiring qustions

If I remember correctly one wires sends a signal to the voltage gauge in the car. I know the brown wire runs to the fan fuse so the alternator can increase its output under the additional load and the heavier of the 3 runs somewhere behind the dash to the main hot bus if I remember correctly. It's been a while since I looked at my GM electrical manual

Re: alternator wiring qustions

so when purchasing an alternator from like summit or somewhere and they say whether or not the unit is one wire capable... would you need it to say yes or no? for example

this one isnt
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

and this one is
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

which one would you buy? if you have the plug and battery wire then do you need the one that isnt one wire capable?

Re: alternator wiring qustions

Get the one that is one wire capable, and run it just to the battery, good to go

Re: alternator wiring qustions

i just looked and the plug on mine runs through the injector set up so i dont think i can not have it. so does one wire mean then that there is no plug on the back just a battery wire?

Re: alternator wiring qustions

Correct. Mostly.
Some alternator models still have the two prong plug, but its plugged off with a rubber insert.
