Cannot figure out charging problem.
I've had this car for about 4 years already and since day 1 when it was bone stock it has always had a charging problem. We converted the TBI to an 89 MAF system and TPI. Still a problem. We converted a brand new OBD 2 harness which gets rid of darn near everything and we still have the problem.
As soon as car starts it charges good. After about 10 minutes the voltage gauge takes a dive. Usually between 9-11 volts it shows. Everytime I hit the brakes it drops or everytime the blinker goes it drops. I have thrown on 3 new alternators, (105 amps) new power cable, new negative cable, 3 brand new fusable links, cleaned all terminals and grounding location on the head. new wire between alternator and battery. When we take it to autozone and thrown on their machine, it states that its putting out 14.45 Volts but very low 53-55 amps when load tested. When it was load tested the gauge went into the red. I am at a total loss. Its done this with 3 differant batteries as well. Current batt is a Yellow Top optima. There doesnt seem to be an abnormal draw as the battery in the car sat all winter and the battery still had power 6 months later. Not enought to start it, but it had power.
Only add on is a 6AL box. No pulleys. Stock still
Any help would be appreciated. Car is 2nd in sig.

I thought about that, but I took the alt off the formula which is good and it had the same effects on the Camaro.

try checking the feed wire from the alt to the battery.. i had the same problem and found out it was the feed wire.... It was old and had a few bad strands inside..

Re: Cannot figure out charging problem.
Check your engine to body ground strap. If the 10mm bolt that secures this strap to the firewall is loose they will do this. Also make sure its tight on the back of the block.

Re: Cannot figure out charging problem.
Follow the red power wires from the starter that pass through the C100 firewall connector and then goes to light switch, fuse box, and ignition switch. Somewhere along that route you should find the voltage drop.
