how do i check my tach

Car: 1987 Camaro, 1986 Trans AM
Engine: V6 2.8 multi-port and V8 5.0 FI
Transmission: 5-Speed and Automatic
Axle/Gears: no idea
how do i check my tach

i installed a used digital dash.

the tach seems to be pretty close but i want to make sure.

once i locate the wire what do i need to check the signal and lets say i get a certain voltage how can i translate that into rpms?

Can't do anything "by ear" here, sorry. You need instruments (oscilloscope or function generator) to check tachometer accuracy.
