What to use... What to Cut?!?
What to use... What to Cut?!?
Installing a older model Engine.. 1989 358ci 2 piece real seal, i have the 92 RS and i have the old engine out... And have a Cluster F*** of wires... not sure what to use or best way about going through with this.. this engine is carbuerated and will have no computer what so ever,
My question is should i jus rip out everything and get a painless wiring harness or jus get rid of alot of wires and figure out what i need...??
I don't even want to use the stock guage pod..im doin all mechanical gauges..well most of them.. please let me know what you think.
Always helps to have thoughts outside the box!!
Thanks guys!

Re: What to use... What to Cut?!?
i did the same thing, except my car came with a carb from the factory. i cleaned most of those wires out but i didnt cut them yet. they are tucked away beneath my fender until i make sure everything is working properly.for example,my windows dont work, so i'm about to dive into 500 yards of wires to figure what my problem is.
i wouldnt cut anything until after you drive it, and make sure that everything is working, like your windows and lights.
if my car had injection instead of carb, and i had to do it all over again, i would go with the painless harness, that way you know what your working with.
just my opinion!

yea i see what ur sayin... but ive been told that the harness on the driver side should be for ur windows and headlights and all that good stuff... harness on the right should be for all engine sensors and computer ****... Ive got this amazing engine to put in and all thats holding me back is this wiring situation...

AFAIK, the wiring harness on the pass. side is for the engine. Don't quote me 100%, but you should be able to get rid of it. The wiring on the driver's side, AFAIK, is for lights and accessories and such.
Although this shouldn't be an issue with you using mechanical gauges, just a heads up: your 92 car has an electronic speedometer, which needs the computer to work. However, since you are going mechanical, if that includes a speedometer that is mechanical, then just get the old cable adaptor/gear housing from an older 700R4 and use that setup. No electronics to mess with that way. The ECM has nothing to do with controlling lights and accessories.
