Security issues w/ remote starter solenoid?
I would like to install a remote solenoid on my car, but I'm concerned that it would make it easy for someone to steal the car by just using a screwdriver if I put it on the fender. Is there a way to put one in and still keep the car secure?
Thanks.
Thanks.

A remote solenoid to do what? Open the doors, or just unlock them? Or are you talking about remote start? Whichever one you're talking about, inside the car, under the dash would be the ideal place.

I'm talking about a remote solenoid for the starter (like Ford's have), sorry.

Ahhhh, OK. In that tutorial, they recommended between the battery, and overflow tank. I would think that would be an OK place to put it, since a thief would not expect the solenoid to be anywhere else than usual. If you're still concerned about security, maybe high up on the firewall would be a good place for it. Keep this in mind also, just jumping the solenoid would not let someone steal the car. The ignition must be in the "on" position. This alone would mean a thief will be working from inside the car, at the ignition or under the dash, so the location of that solenoid wouldn't matter one bit.
Another thing, does your key have a little black chip on it? If so, then you have the VATS system. It's GM's factory "vehicle anti theft system". VATS disables the starter, fuel pump, and injectors, if that little black chip is not present. Meaning a thief would have alot more things to take care of before driving off with your ride. Hope this helps out some.

Yeah, I have VATS.
I didn't realize the ignition needed to be "on", so I guess that's some comfort. If I ever buy and install a hood lock, then it'd be a non-issue.
I'll have to spend more money for a better motor before I worry too much about that, just didn't want to take two steps forward, and one back.
Thanks!
