Mystery hatch wire

Hey, can anyone tell me where this white wire is supposed to go? My pull down motor stopped working today and when I opened up the panel, there were about 7 frayed wires and this white one was connected to nothing. Neither of my manuals has a wiring diagram for the hatch. Thanks.

The wire is coming from the loom that has all of the wires going into the relay, and it has a very small black connector attached to it. Also, my BRAKE light comes on when I push the hatch release button.

Re: Mystery hatch wire

It should run to your trunk light. an orange wire and a white wire.

No, my light has both wires attached and it works. From what I saw, there is no visible place for the wire. If anyone has a wiring diagram fro the hatch motor circuit, I could possibly trace it from there. As I said, the wire is coming out of the loom that has several wires going into the relay. Some are black, some blue, and a few white. This one was just sitting there - but it has a connector on it so I think it must go somewhere.

Re: Mystery hatch wire

Keep in mind my car is in GA and I am in DC.

i was home last week trying to troubleshoot a tail light problem. When we had the panels off I want to say that the orange wire went to the right side of the contact (3 metal contacts). Check there.

Does your pull down motor work or does it not work like mine? If yours works then I would know that this wire doesn't make the pull down motor work. I'm starting to think it got dislodged from the contact sensor, but can't figure out how or verify that the sensor has three wires. It has two in it now.

Re: Mystery hatch wire

If I remember, it's not used before 89. If you hook it up right, it will turn the trunk light off and on if the hatch is closed and opened.

Re: Mystery hatch wire

No, my pull down motor does not work. I haven't tested the motor or anything. I just bought the car and have limited time and resources. Whoever had the car before had massive speaker boxes in the hatch and I have mystery wiring all over the car, but most of that is just open wire with no connections on the ends. That one wire that is the same as yours is one of the few with a connector. I managed to get my hatch to close down tight manually and then I pop it open with the button on the dash. Would love to have the hatch motor operational but will settle with what I have now until I get some help.

If you want you can hook the ground of your hatch light to that white wire and the hatch light will be turned on and off automatically by the striker-sensing switch of the pull-down motor.

How'd you get it to close manually? I've been trying and can't get it to stay closed.
